At Havoc, we embrace the long term development philosophy. A key component of our approach to developing high-performing volleyball players is extending our fair play philosophy into the 15U age group and beyond.
Fair Play at the 15U level evolves from the approach used at 14U. While athletes at 14U received equal playing time each match, the 15U substitution rules introduce greater strategic opportunities to utilize team and individual strengths. As a result, playing time may vary based on each athlete's stage of development, commitment, and the needs of the team. At Havoc, however, every athlete will continue to receive meaningful playing opportunities, and differences in court time will remain reasonable as we prioritize the long-term development of every player.
Excellence takes time. Reaching an athlete's full potential requires well-planned, progressive, high-quality training over many years, along with meaningful game experience. Havoc athletes will be challenged to step outside their comfort zones, take risks, and learn through mistakes as they develop their skills. Within a safe, supportive environment, athletes grow faster, build confidence, and deepen their love for the game. While we are committed to helping every individual reach their potential, we are equally focused on raising the overall caliber of the team year after year.
Research consistently shows that female athletes often reach peak performance in their mid-to-late twenties. During the youth years, however, every athlete develops at a different pace. A player may be physically advanced while still developing technical, tactical, or mental aspects of the game, while another may excel in those areas but mature physically later. For that reason, it is important to look beyond any single season and ensure every athlete has meaningful opportunities to train, compete, and gain valuable game experience throughout their development.
Competition can support athlete developmentābut only when it serves the development process. When programs prioritize short-term results and winning over long-term growth, athletes often receive fewer opportunities to learn, contribute, and build confidence. Research has shown that this approach can reduce long-term participation in sport, particularly among girls.
Our ultimate measure of success extends far beyond wins and losses. We want our athletes to leave Havoc as skilled volleyball players who love the game, value teamwork, embrace challenges, and have the confidence and desire to continue playing and leading active, healthy lives long after their youth volleyball careers have ended.
